When ordering the rear window seal, is it must to match seal to window type as in with chrome trim? I'm not familiar with these trucks so idk which to order. Mine is a sliding window. Don't know of the chrome trim was separate or not.
Yeah, generally ther are two types of seals, one for windows without the chrome trim (no groove in seal) and one for windows with the chrome trim (has a groove in seal).
Is the chrome trim a part of the window assembly? From how I take the descriptions it looks like the sliding glass windows all use the seal without the groove...?
68, The slider is not Ford but aftermarket, trim is Ford and has nothing to do with the glass used. Dennis Carpenter in Charlotte NC makes the good rubber, I read not so good things about rubber sold by LMC. The glass is placed in the rubber, then the trim, then it's placed in the truck.
I'm not sure about this topic as this is one of the things I'll need to know to for when I do my rear window. But if I understand john right the sliding window and solid glass window both use the same gasket. But if you have the trim you need the gasket with the groove in it. If no trim then you get the gasket without a groove in it. Can someone confirm this for me and let me know if I got it right?
That is correct. The sliding windows are designed to use the same rubber seal as the stock window. Only difference is if you have the beauty ring or chrome ring that covers the seal that was a factory option. If you have the beauty ring then you will need the groove.
