did more cleaning and measuring on the engine in the flat-bump.. i was wrong on the stroke it is a 3.98 stroke and has the backward 105 block.. if i knew the bore i would know if it is a 410 or 428.. either way i like it ..the vin said 390 was original but you know how these old trucks are you never know what ya have till ya look inside.. i need to pull some hubs and see what needs to be done on the brakes and get that good to go.. the exhaust bolts are still being stubborn so i will need my small tip torch that is at the other shop right now so the header install will be put on hold.. i may remove the intake today and see what the inside of the engine is like .. it is raining so i cant do much except play indoors
a big shop is great..till it comes time to clean it!!!!!!.. the bigger the shop the more junk that gets collected.. and working by myself most of the time, i have a bad habit of just putting stuff wherever there is a empty spot.... i have seen times when it was a nightmare to just walk thru it.. ha ha ha ha
D2TE6316AA damper crosses to D2TZ6316A. (Replaced C8AZ6316B).
D2TZ6316A fit:
68-70 "428" in full size cars, police cars, fairlanes, and Mustang CJ.
1968 427.
68/71 car 390.
68/72 360/truck 390.
I didn't check 73 and newer since 428 is what I was after.
You lucky Dog. Hey, will you buy me a lottery ticket?
the rain has stopped (finally) so i guess i can go do a little work today.. my friend alan (earthquake) talked me into pulling the heads to be sure of what the mystery engine is.. will make it easier to get the upper exhaust bolts off anyway.. if it is a 428 i guess i will pull it out and build one of my 390's to put back in the truck .. i have a toploader 4spd out of a 67 galaxie XL laying around.. so if i bolt that to a 428 it would make a good powertrain for one of my other (car) projects.. i dont know how i keep getting involved in more projects..
i cant do much more on the truck until the parts i just ordered com in anyway
i got the heads off.. no go on the 428.. it is a 390 block with .040 pistons and a 3.98 crank..so i guess it is a home made 410.. but i am still happy with it for sure.. the engine was real clean inside looks like a fresh rebuild. i managed to get all the exhaust bolts out, just had to drill the one that was already broke off.. slipped the headers on while everything was outta the way, cleaned some more on the frame and backing plates.. when my new brake parts come in i will get those put on.. then when i can afford a gasket set i will put the engine back together.. i need to re-assemble the truck so i can put it to work.. have to make a few scrap runs to refill my piggy bank, these parts bills are killing me
for you FE experts out there..i have a intake .. C4SE-9425-A.. i think it was from a old t-bird that i scrapped years ago.. would this be a good intake for my truck?.. or should i tear apart the 76 truck 390 laying out back and get that intake (havent checked the casting# on it yet)..
would like to use the t-bird intake because it is already clean and painted..

Yes it is. Seems to me I remember Orich saying something about those not working. Bolt pattern or gasket surface?????

in cleaning the shop There's an old saying every thing has its place, my saying is every place has a thing.
A gt intake dosent swap out with the regular FE heads, but not sure if your
T bird intake is a gt type, is there a large S casted near the casting #
i looked up some info on that t-bird intake.. i dont remember a large S caste in it just the numbers i posted...i think i can use it i just may have to make a angled spacer for the carb.. it said something about on the regular intakes the carb flange is angled and on the t-bird it was flat..but i think as far as bolting on it will work..it is a low riser intake i do believe

Back in the day I remember selling some tapered 4V spacers. One was tapered more than the other and one had a PCV tube stuck in the back of it. And weak there. I don't remember which was which anymore. Nobody shows either one on my locators. Part number C8SZ9A589B & C8AZ9A589E. Looking under T-bird C8SZ-B fit 68/71 FE T-birds and the C8AZ-E fit Pre EGR 72 429/460 T-birds.
