Hello everyone,
I have been following this site for a while now and I going to pull the trigger on a new F350
Like most I have been pondering Diesel again or Gas.
I have owned a 99. 7.3L best engine ever built ,
I have also owned 2. 6.0L and 2 6.4L, all blew head gaskets before warranty was over....never again, 2 rads on my dime.
I was contemplating on getting a 6.7L but quickly changed my mine after researching the forums. Even the updated 2015 are now having trouble and Ford does nothing.
My old Farm truck is a 2002 f150 5.4 with over 400,000 Km (275000miles
On it and has never had anything done to the motor besides plugs/ coils.
I don't believe I can get 200,000 miles out of the 6.7 trouble free even with a delete kit on it. I prob would with a 6.2L
So I am going to sacrifice mileage and power for trouble free and piece of mind
I am going to join the 6.2L ranks.
67DART, are you ordering the F350 or buying off of the Dealers lot?
After my excellent 99F350 PSD I have been back in with the gasser's since '05.
I've seen too many issues with the Ford Diesel Motors and since I really didn't need the extra expense of a Diesel I switched back many many yrs ago.
Just now getting my 1st 6.2L in a F350 and have read nothing but good things about this motor.
I was going to order a 16 Platinum F350 CC long box 4x4,
A dealer has one only its a Lariat but really has me thinking!
I like all Black but this one is Ruby Red and that would be my next choice..
that red just pops!
You've got to go with what is Best for you, not all need the extra expense of a Diesel.
I don't see how a Platinum has anything to do with it, add the diesel option and that Truck is going to carry a hefty price tag.
I went with the Ruby Red as well, 1st Red Truck in over 30 yrs, it will be a nice change from Blue and having a adobe color interior instead of the gray.
The Ruby Red is sharp and it does pop in different light, not much longer and I'll have mine.
I already ordered a new grill surround so I can have it color match to Ruby Red instead of the Chrome. I like Chrome but good grief Ford, that front grill is too loud, also will have 3 LED lights in top of the grill(like the Raptor Grill).
Ordering a 2016 may be ending soon, I read that August 31st is the cut-off date but haven't been able to confirm that through my Dealer.
It was an easy choice for me. I've got 7.3 in a 99 but went gas in my 03 f350 and now just got a 2011 f350 with a 6.2. Unless you're pulling heavy all the time I'd never consider a newer or new diesel. The potential liability for repairs is insane.
I have a small farm myself and haul a three horse trailer around a couple times a week. My 03 5.4 did it for seven years with no issues. 1000km(mostly just to get it home) in with the 6.2 now it'll haul the trailer for the 1st time this week but I already know it's got a lot more oomph.
Diesel was a lot better option in the past when it was cheaper at the pump and the motors were more reliable and easier to work on.
Just my opinion and probably not even worth the .02.
I have a 6.2 gas with 4.30 gears on order. I felt the same way as you about the problems with diesel. I can tell you that my friend has the same engine and axle combo that I ordered and he tows a fifthwheel weighing approx. 13,500#'s approx. 10,000 miles a year and he is happy with the performance. He gets 8.6 mpg towing under 60mph, 7.5mpg towing near 70mph and approx. 14mpg driving unladen. I used his truck to move my fifthwheel and I too was happy with the performance. After dropping off the camper, I set the cruise just under 65 mph and the lie ometer was reading close to 16 mpg. I can't wait to get my truck. The excessive wait to order this truck has really messed up my camping season.

4wd truck? I test drove a 6.2 3/4 ton with 4.30 gears for a couple days and the best I could get highway mileage was 13 highway and 11 city.
Yes, 4x4, supercab long bed with 18" wheels. He does however run his tires at 80 psi since he mainly tows with the truck. Maybe that's why, less rolling resistance with firm tires. All I know is the truck performs good and I can't wait to get mine.
The 6.2 is a great motor! No problems so far with my f350 with a little over 10k. I couldn't see paying 8k more for a diesel and worrying about expensive repairs. My friend bought a 6.7 the same time I got my 6.2. He is averaging 14.6 mpg all around and I'm averaging 13.8 mpg all around. Not a huge difference. This last winter he plugged his in every night to get it to start in the morning. pita! He's been to the dealer twice with engine related issues. I love my 6.2 gasser!
I prefer gas as well. It's nicer in the cold weather, easily accessible at all gas stations, doesn't stink up your hands and shoes when filling up. I just rolled 8K on my 6.2. Coming from an EcoBoost I did have to get used to the higher towing RPMs & it does like to down shift a little sooner.
