Question Buying a used 2002 f350

I am looking at a 2002 f-350 xlt lariat crewcab. This truck has 87000 miles on it. I currently have a 2003 5.4 f-250. With the gas prices going the way they are i am thinking of getting this diesel and getting the better gas milage. i also tow a 30 ft enclosed snowmobile trailer so it will help there to. My question is , when does a diesel really "break in" and compared to a gas motor how long should it last. The truck is in like new shape, Dealer wants 29000 for it. I checked, and its the retail price for this truck. My biggest worry is the mileage. good or bad? thanks Jeff

Doesnt sound to bad of a deal, I think you could talk them down alittle. I dont know about where you live but here in florida gas is cheaper than diesel. I dont drive no where near what I used to. As far as lasting they say a diesl doesnt fully break in till 100,000. If you look on this site some have 300,000 miles and up, it also depends on how you take care of it the better you do the longer it will last. They are much nicer when pulling a trailer, they have the power and get way better millage when you have a load verses a gasser.

I agree, you live in an area where they salt the roads in winter. The truck isn't that old but it's probably half rotted away underneath by now. I'd pay about half that for that truck.
If you still end up getting it, mileage should be about 10-12mpg pulling a trailer that size. Better if you take it easy.
