Is it possible that the same type of debrie that caused the clog could have damaged the needle and seat? Is it possible that fuel is leaking past the threads on the seat?

That is possible. Most common place for leaking into the bowl is the gasket between body and the part that holds the needle and seat..
I really don't think the fuel pump could have suddenly made more pressure, but possible.
Ok now I am going to admit I didn't know there was a gasket between the seat and the body. I will look at that.
Had a moment to look online and it appears to be an Autolite 1100. And there should be a fiber washer under the seat assembly. It wouldn't surprise me at all that it isn't in good shape after I removed it. First place I will look when I get a moment alone with her.

Hopefully that will be a minor fix and solve your problem, I'm not familiar with the 1100 so I'm no help.
Crud! I mean it's crud getting into the carb. I had the tank flushed and coated inside last year. Lots of rubber line and the stock line up at the engine. Line looks good outside. Filter before and after pump and the pump has a bowl. Everything I found in the carb was metalic and stuck to a magnet. I have heard of using a magnet on the filter. Pain in the rear!
