So back yet again this time with a serious problem..
So a few hours ago i left work on break to get gas ( was on a quarter tank ) and the station was not even a mile up the road. Truck was fine no issues, filled the tank up full then went back to work for 15 minutes then went to leave. Got about 500 feet outa the parking lot and lost all gauge power ( the gas meter dropped to empty and i assume all the other gauges did as well ) in the matter of time of about 4 seconds after i lost gauges then acceleration was lost( couldn't accelerate at all ) then lost all braking ( brakes got really hard and stopped working ) then lost power steering ) Mind you all this happened within 4-6 seconds total. Lucky i was able to turn off to the side of the road before power steering dropped and came to a stop. Hazards still worked fine, I have 3 separate manual gauges on my dash that are battery voltage, tach rpm meter and oil pressure, i turn the key and battery is normal right above 12v so i knew the battery didnt die ( and the fact hazards still are fine ) i turn the key to try and start and first time nothing happened, i disconnected the battery for a few minutes then tried again and it started clicking over then after a few more attempts it clunks around trying to start but like it cant. I have no idea what this could be. Computer couldn't of went out considering my hazards still work along with radio and custom gauges i installed...unless it can go out and some stuff still work? Does anyone have any ideas at all? I was able to have it towed back to the house so i can work on it tomorrow. This is my only vehicle though and i need to get it back running asap. You all have been great help in the past helping me fix and figure issues out, Hopefully we can do this one more time Im no master mechanic but ive been learning since i bought the truck. 1995 F150 XLT V8 5.0 201k miles 2wd.
It sure sounds like you have suffered some sort of major power distribution fault. The fact that the emergency flashers still work is a little bit out of sync with the rest of the symptoms, but it certainly is not outside the realm of possibilities. Your electrical system is best understood with the help of a factory EVTM. There are electrical diagrams online and with a little searching, you will find the right ones. There are 3 main circuits in any vehicle. Battery, ignition and accessory. It all starts with the cable coming from your battery and branches out from there. Trick is to find which ones are not working. I will hazard a guess and suggest you may have lost your ignition power. This starts at the ignition switch and that may not be a bad place to start your diagnosis. Remember, every circuit has a source and a return. Grounds are as important as the battery positive connection.
Good luck with your repair. At least our trucks are still reasonably easy to understand and work on.
Everything gets power from the starter relay on the pass inner fender. I'd start there, remove the large terminal that the battery positive goes to and clean all those wires that attach to that post.
those are great starting points! i was able to have my neighbor thats a mechanic look at it last night while i was chrcking fuses, we found out my fuel pump was not clicking on when key was turned, at the same time i found a fuse blown in my power distribution box ( 20a ) and after finding a diagram with labels for the fuses it turned out the blown fuse was for my fuel pump sender. so today after work ill be grabbinf a new fuse and hoping thats the issue
No kiddin. Was not fun last night. Lucky i had AAA but still. Think its time to order a variety of different fuse sizes just incase....20 years old you never know.
Thanks again for everyones suggestions. Always good to know there are people willing to help
