Well I finally slapped the 470 on my pickup all I have to say is what a snappy little dude!! But I do have a problem with it. It seems like something is sticking. Here are the symptoms.
When I am driving everything is fine when I come to a stop, and push the clutch in it idles up I have to it the gas pedal so it could idle down. I adjusted the throttle cable three times so I know it's not that.
I took the 470 off to check if anything was sticking it seems fine except the secondaries are kinda cracked open I am wondering if that could be it.
I'm guessing it doesn't do it in the driveway? And that when you drive it you put the air cleaner on? I'd check for interference with the a.cleaner.
Of course ck the throttle linkage too, but I'd be looking at the choke. It sounds as though it is dropping onto the fast idle notch. Next time it does it pull over w/o tapping the throttle, and play around with the choke side and see if the choke/fast idle disengages when you tap the throttle.

Thanks f250 I'll be sure to check it out next time it happens!
Holley's have an L shaped counter balance weight on the choke linkage that keeps the fast idle arm from engaging. Yours may have dropped off, or you need to dial the choke a bit more to lean, or it's something else entirely.
