engine swap
In my infinite wisdom (and somebody stop me if you have heard this one before) I got to thinking, what are the major differences between the 00-03-05 Excursions? I know the tranny from the later year excursions are different. What I guess I am getting at is, why could I not buy this rig here, 2001 Ford Excursion Limited V8 5.4 and if I am so fixated with 7.3L diesel just drop a 7.3 in it? I it would take some modification, but could be done right? How many similarities are there across the board from v10,5.4, 7.3.

If you are going to swap in a 7.3 into a gas Ex what difference does a few minor parts changes to the platform over the years really make ? You are still going to need a donor 7.3 vehicle. Seems to me that rather then spending $10k to transform a $2k gas Ex into diesel you would be better off either buying a wrecked or blown up diesel and refurbish it or just buy a $12k 7.3 driver.
Me, I opted for the buy a $10k blown up and build a $40k model method.... Doh !
