So I just picked up an 83 bronco and after putting in a fresh engine I noticed that it seems to be skipping 1st gear altogether.
I can manually put it in 1st and feel the major difference. For example going up my driveway, if I put it in 1st it will not roll back and go up smoothly when i lightly press the throttle.
If i leave it in D, it will roll back if allowed and takes a little more pedal to go up the drive way.
Any suggestions on this one? Id love to fix this one.
I've remedied two sticky C6 governors in the past by finding a quiet back road, & driving in reverse for half a mile or so.
This flushes the rear housing (& the governor) with trans fluid & frees it up, so the truck will downshift into 1st again as you slow down to a stop.
You could put the truck up on axle stands to do this if you preferred to.
