Ok- The headers and Y-pipe are in! First reaction WOW!
The power gain is substantial and the modification adds some new exhaust note flavor which is still "civilized" but throaty and gutty. What was uncivilized and RAW was the ride from my mechanic to my muffler man. The head pipe needed some flange welding and I had to drive cross town (the longest way possible) with unconnected muffler. WOW!! I could get used to that sound. Here's the breakdown after saving for about 1 year I had 1500$ for much needed mods....
Bassani Y-pipe 350
Bassani headers (ceramic coacted) 450
3 new sensors 150
labor (headers) 200
head pipe flange 30
I do nothave many mods however, this by far seems to be the best investment.
Glad to hear that Dutch.I've been following this thread and a few others that wheelMA1 and greystreak92 have talked about the Bassani.
Rich, I may just get this set-up before my wedding next month!
Sudsrat good luck with the wedding... I am very impressed with the power gains through the rpm range... makes me wonder why I have suffered with the lumbering giddy up and wait for so long... As my daily driver here in South Florida one needs to be a patient and calm driver. The only place I open her up in on the turnpike or interstate; cruise about 70. In town it's watch your flanks and be cautious. This new system gives me some added hp's and extended engine life. I will also say the gearhead who worked on my rig is a 20 yr man. he was very impresssed with the quality of the components. Several times he said it is nice to work with quality parts, not junk. He kept reminding me of the 300mile tweaking and bolt retightening needed. Working on a gallery now.
Thanks Dutch.
I remember you having concerns/problems? with gaskets and such.I'm assuming you got it through Proficient Performance.Did they send you EVERYTHING you needed?
Yes, I did not like the fact that a gasket of some sort was required for the new Ypipe and the stock headers. I made the decision ( the correct one) to scrap the stock headers and go with the new headers which matched perfectly to the new ypipe.
Obviously this decision cost me some $ and I was ok to with it. The header on the passenger side is a real nightmare so I did not do it my self. However, I understand that it can be done. I must again say, and I am very hard to impress, this was a GREAT ADD on and that these 2 mods have released the power which the 351W always had bottled up.
The "cosmetic" issues" with the rig are:
1. keyed drivers side from front qrt panel to rear qrt I filled with touch up paint which makes it look like a six foot scar
2. decayed, ripped and separated leather from the drivers side captian chair - a result of the constant sweat from my back and back side) even though I have seat covers it penetrated, cracked the seams and ate up the stitching. Also the seat springs are shot. I wonder what a replacement chair costs? I prefer not to run the air even though I'm in Florida, I go all windows down... so I sweat. I am thinking about a repair and then seat covers which are polyurethane? The cloth covers $99 I have now are weak.
Finally; I saw a fullsize rig down here for $999 in a local auto trader mag 1986 no more details. I could get the number if anyone is interested.
Thanks for all the info Dutch.Cabella's has neoprene seat covers.
Check 'em out!I know they use this material for waders and nothing penetrates it. http://www.cabelas.com
OK I am confused. What y-pipe to header gasket are you talking about. I was told the y-pipe bolts up just like the stock y-pipe. I have never seen a gasket on mine and it seals perfect.
