03 5.4 v8....ive got some type of column problem. Something broke...a screw/bolt and a piece of broken metal the screw fit into fell onto the truck floor. Now park is reverse...although i gotta put it there to get the key out. I have no park. Still can go into reverse and drive. Shifting feels weird as expected. I took the dash plastic off and cant find broken metal and not really sure what im looking at. Any help is appreciated.
Though I now drive a 2002, I had that same problem on my old 1995 F series. I suspect that the steering columns haven't changed that much. There is an aluminum tube that runs the length of the column from the shifter stalk to the cable. On mine, the bolts all came loose, and the bushings wore out. I was able to buy all the parts from the dealer. I dropped the column (not a hard job), put it on the bench and relpaced these parts...all good. Just watch out for the airbag, and whatever you do, do NOT disturb the clockspring. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
Yep oldstyle....my only vehicle at the time so i was leery about tearing into it to deep since i never done that before. I took it apart and its the tube...a bolt tab broke off on the bottom end where the linkage goes. Got one on order from parts house for 35 bucks. Thought it would be a bigger pita to drop the column than it was.
