Front end issues

On my 83 f150 4x4 5.8 liter pickup, the truck is all over the road. If the truck hits a bump on the right, it heads to the right and the truck bounces, causing difficulty in steering...I'm constantly correcting the steering to stay on the road. The steering box is newly replaced. I've also put on new shocks which were the correct fit from my local parts retailer. Any suggestions?

I would look at the tie rods and ball joints. sounds like they are badly worn that's how mine was when they where bad.

If I find the ball joints to be bad, once replaced, would I have to have the front end aligned?

I think if the mechanic is careful and counts or measures threads on most any of the front end parts it will be fine, assuming alignment is good now. Don't quote me on that though.

Take it to get it aligned. They should check before they do the alignment. Then they will come back and tell you what it needs before they can align it. If it's the balljoints, get ready for a very large estimate to fix it.
