I have a 96 f150 with the 4.9l 5 speed and i noticed the other day if i let my truck set for a while it is hard to put into a gear and the the clutch pressure is hard one minute and soft like there is air in the line pump a few more times and pressure builds back up i was wondering what you all had to say about it and advise i checked the level of the clutch master cylinder and it had plenty of fluid and no leaks anywhere to be really seen
Could be the master cylinder starting to fail, basically bleeding fluid by the piston instead of pushing it. Or the slave cylinder for that matter. Either or. It doesn't have to actually leak to be bad. Though if it did, that would help tell which one is faulty.

Could be a torn cup or pitted cylinder.
I actually just took of the rubber cover to look at the slave cylinder and throw out bearing and they damn near look new so now im between the master or a pressure plate or a air bubble but the previous owner actually put a new clutch system in
What brand is the master cylinder? New parts of bottom barrel quality are known to fail extremely soon.
Not exactly sure i have a mess of receipts i bought it 3 months ago and the gentleman i bought of from said it has a whole new clutch assembly on installed
Well now ot feels like the truck is lugging back and forth or jerking vut it only does it when im accelerating so im thinking it might be the clutch? I tryed the hole put it in 5th and ease out of the clutch and it stalls :/ so now idk whats going on
Mine went out a few years ago. I first replaced the master cylinder and it seemed to help for a while, then it got to where you could just barely shift while moving and it almost wouldn't disengage at a stoplight. I had to have the slave cylinder and throwout bearing replaced to fix it. It was a month into the problems before you could actually see any fluid leaking at the clutch, so I didn't suspect it at first.
Also when you change out either the master or slave, it can be difficult to get all the air out, and you will have similar problems with it being ok then squishy. I bled and bled then finally had to stomp the pedal a few times to get all the air out.
