It's all about the same, really. I would not hesitate to buy it. Some people warn that "you get what you pay for" which is true in most cases, but I have never had any problems with them. I hope that you are doing the upgrade yourself, you seem like the DIY type
...Yea, Im exploring a new ave to spend money on...
Ive heard that using price/warranties as a guide is a good start when researching the various options. The 256mb stick I picked up from Fry's electronics cost $50 (upper/middle $, for what they had)...took it home and followed the install procedures in the manual...
Nothing happened, I thought the monitor fried at first, then the test screen came on, so I rechcked all connections and tried again...nothing
Pulled the new stick out and everything worked fine...Im thinking the "new" stick is bad...going back to Fry's to see what they have to say...
Hell, buying computer parts is worse than buying harley parts, what with all the aftermarket stuff out there...
By the way thanks for the reply...
What system are you running? Is it SDRAM/RDRAM/DDR?? Give me some specs and I can help you out. How big is the original stick? I believe that the larger one has to go in the first bank, but I will check that out when you reply with the specs of your system. I had Corsair DDR in my athlon system I built(1800+, fastest you could get at the time) before lightning hit the phone line and fried my MB.... shoulda had a surge strip with a phone jack in/out. Now I have my old PIII 550. Its OK, but I really miss my AMD. BTW if any of you are looking at buying a computer, PLEASE do not buy an intel anything. AMDs are faster and more reliable, and I see almost nothing but pentiums sold nowadays because they are cheaper and have higher clock speeds (not that they are faster, they aren't) and not to mentino that that is all that some brands carry. HP still sells AMD stuff, so support the better brand. Which would you rather have? The high revving intel, or the big bad powerstroke athlon?? email me if you have questions, i used to really be into this computer stuff before I got my truck and couldnt drive anywhere.
Check otu this site for the ram.. its a pretty decent site.. umm pretty cheap prices... www.crucial.com i bought all 768 mb of my DDR ram there.. pretty cheap.. and here are my comps specs...
OS-[Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 1 (5.1 - 2600)]- Up Time-[4hrs 42mins 5secs]- CPU-[1-Intel Pentium 4, 1989MHz, 0KB (36% Load)]- Memory-[Usage: 211/766MB (27.55%)]- Video Card-[Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128 DDR]- Resolution-[1024 x 768]- Total Space Free-[30.65Gb out of 37.31Gb]-
My whole system was 800 and it was TOP OF THE LINE when I built it, 24x10x40 CDRW, 16x DVD, 80MB IBM ATA 133 HDD, 64MB DDR ATI RADEON, and lots of other acronyms I won't bore you with. But that was well over a year and a half ago.
WAbiker- Try just the 256 stick in the old 128's bank (bank 0), and see what happens. If it works, put the 128 in bank 1.
...Yea, I tried that....
1) added 256 to 2d slot- no go
2) swapped 128/256 slots-no go
3) pulled 128, inserted 256 in "o" slot- no go
4) pulled 256, inserted just the 128 back in original slot- worked
...Well FTE fans, I finally got the upgrade figured out...
Seems the 2 memory slots on my system are rated for 256 "COMBINED MAX".
exchanged the 256 chip with a 128 (total 256), gives me 2 sticks at 128=256...VIOLA...
..Ok now I have to find something else to break!!
thanks for the input folks...
Memory is memory! I have bought/installed about every thing on the market from the cheapest to (at the customers request) the most expensive on the market! I have had more failures with the high dollar memory than the cheap stuff.
