I have been searching online for the best bang for my buck via gaming computer. I'm not a big computer guy, I don't know all that much about computers.
I wanted to know if anyone here has any experience with gaming online. Does anyone know anything about Alienware? I'm looking at Dell. I'm not wanting to spend more than $1,500.
By the way, if this matters, my main goal is to play Call of Duty 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
i play the games you do.. stay the f*** away from dell for a gaming cpu. alienware is ok from what ive heard. i have a friend that owns his own cpu store. build a pc with your specs is the way to go and sometimes cheaper as well.
from a previous post of mine----
for graphic card, id go with sapphire radeon, or nvidia 9600
processor id go with at leat a dual core, or if you have some cash tri core or quad core prefereably AMD but thats my opinion, i play some direct10 games, and they are the best
for mother boards- if you go with AMD, DFI lanparty or ASUS
if you go with intel graphics, id go with ABIT or XFX for the motherboard
I have always built my computers. It sounds intimidating but it's not, it's actually relatively easy. OK so that didn't answer your question so to answer your question I say Alienware and Dell (both made by the same people) are really overpriced. They are good computers though but really overpriced. I just built a new computer with a lot of really good components in it this summer and spent around $800 for it. But if you can't bare the thought of building your computer then I suggest you look at "www.tigerdirect.com". This is the website that I use to buy all my computer components because they have really great prices and are extremely quick in processing and shipping. They also have really good prices on already built computers.
Dell owns Alienware. If you feel like shelling out a lot of money, you can get a decent gaming computer from both, but you will pay a premium.
I've heard good things about a smaller company called Puget Computers. You can even talk to their tech support and they'll help you assemble a system based on what you want, or you can go through their website. They use mostly-off-the-shelf components, so if something fails out of warranty, it should not be a hassle to replace it. Although recent reviews have not been to friendly.
That is also one thing I would check before making any major online purchase, check the reviews of the company on such websites like Resellerratings.com or Epinions.com
Fantastic advice everyone. You all are helping me narrow down my options.
Thanks everyone

That's a big 10-4.. That will need to be upgraded.
What do you suggest I use for a moniter?
The 22" monitor they sell for $299 doesn't sound like a bad price..
You could probably find a cheaper one if you compare resolution, response time and size..
It all depends on how critical you are with video.. Myself as long as I can see it that is fine with me.. Others complain if the color isn't just right..

I'm not real picky either. I'm used to playing CoD on an average moniter so almost anything new would be an upgrade.
Thanks for your time. Still not sure what I'm going to do just yet.
The nVidia 9500GT will will not very good for gaming and will probably struggle to push CoD:Modern Warfare on a 22" monitor. I'd go the Radeon HD4850 or 4870.

This is a little disheartening. The next one up ($1,600 or so) only had 9,800GT.
