I would like to get some feedback on remanufactured powersteering box quality since I will be replacing the one on my 76 F250 in the near future.
There was a post that contained a small amount of information on this topic a while back, but I was hoping a number of users would be willing to provide more detail about their experiences with quality.
Mark,
I highly recommend that you get a steering gear box rebuilt by Red-Head Steering Gears in Seattle, WA (206-364-3333). Rebuilding gear boxes is all they do. They machine in a bearing at the bottom of the housing to support the output shaft. The orginal Ford design did not have anything to support this shaft (a bad design). A new box will cost you a little more than one out of a parts house ($250) but they are worht the extra cost.

Hello mark, I bought a steering box from the zone a couple of years ago for my 77 f-350. It seems like it was $130, but I could be wrong. I have had no problems with it and my truck has a welder and a cusotm bed on it that weighs at least a ton and a half. I did put a new pump and hoses and rag joint on it at the same time. So I would have say if I had it to do over again I would buy another one. Steven
I just installed a Schucks box in my 79 F150 2WD and it drives like a new truck. It's only been in about a month so I can't claim longevity yet. It's was $180.
