Power steering conversion

I know this has been discussed many times but willing to take my chances. It is time for power steering for my 1965 F-100. It's powered by a Ford crate 302 engine, C6 tranny and have already converted to disk brakes. What do I need
whether it's from a donor or new. Thanks in advance for all your advice and help

I suggest go yarding, find a 73-79 that has a 302 automatic, and get the pump and bracket, gear, column to swap.

Get a seal kit for the gear and install it before you install it in your truck.

Hi John, Thanks for the info. My old profile isn't working so I had to create another one. I forgot to mention that my steering column is an Ididit. Should that make a difference.

Vince, I can't see your truck have no clue where the heck you are. Until we get further info we have to think we are answering about a stock truck.

This is what you are working with the distance between the vertical shaft and the horn button is same for the Bendix gear set and the Saginaw set. The connect point of the Saginaw power gear is about 2 1/3in closer to the firewall so they need to be a matched set or the Bendix column has to be shortened.

Salvaged a 302 out of a 70 Torino and installed in the 65 with all the original brackets, hardware, and pulleys. Few years later upgraded to PS and drove the truck for a few months before it was brought to my attention my water pump and harmonic balance pulleys were mismatched. I then took the casting #/s off both and did some research and found I had a couple options and ended up purchasing the harmonic balance pulley to match the water pump off ebay; what an awakening experience, for a few $'s solved the slightly misaligned belt problem. Anyhow, food for thought??

Nice and clean Vince. That is a standard Bendix gear, the power Saginaw gear has a different config up top that will move your shiney bolt connector 2 1/3" closer to the firewall. You can cut your existing column or swap in a matching shorter column from #2 post.

We have |-x-----| & change to |--x----| The distance from 1st | to second | remains the same. I suggest go yarding & get everything needed from pump bracket including spacers and bolts, pump lines gear and column.
