Help with ABS Codes
Hello,
This past weekend I loaded up the race trailer and set out on a race trip with the family. I haven't towed the trailer in a while, as I have been busy with other things, but every time I have towed it before I didn't have any issues. This time however, after I got 10-15 miles from the house, my ABS light illuminated on the instrument cluster. I continued on for a about 30 more mile when we stopped to have dinner. At this point the rear brakes on the truck smelled a little hot. We went into the restaurant and had dinner and when I fired up the truck the light was off and stayed off for probably 75 or 100 miles. It illuminated once again, however, I never felt the brakes grab or stick, so I continued. For the remainder of the trip to the racetrack and home the ABS stayed on but would go off occasionally. Once I even notice the speedometer needle jumped a bit when the light came on. Also the output on the OEM Trailer brake controller would not light up, at least not as easily, whenever the light was on. The brakes felt great the rest of the trip, and after that first stop, I never smelled that hot brakes smell. I finally was able to scan the codes when I returned home late on Sunday night. This is what I got:
C1175 - Left rear wheel speed sensor input circuit failure
C1236 - Left rear wheel speed sensor input missing
U1900 - Can Bus Fault
The truck is a 2006 F350 SRW with 58,000 miles.
This is the first time I have ever had a light come on in the truck after two years of ownership. The truck is 100% stock. I also noticed more brake dust on the rear wheels than the front which is quite unusual.
Right now my gut feeling is to simply replace the left rear wheel speed sensor. I just do not what to be a parts changer, and never fix the problem. What can you guys interpret with the given codes and information.
Thanks in advance for any and all answers/suggestions.

What did you use to get the codes?
There is not a left and right sensor.
There is only one on the diff.
Check the wiring and maybe also pull the sensor and clean it.
Be sure to clean around the sensor before you pull it out. Don't
need any dirt in the diff. Your looking for metal fuzz.
Read this.

You need to identify the network fault.

Thanks Sean for the info. I will look into it and report back what I find. I thought that it only had one rear ABS sensor but since it is my first super duty I didn't know for sure.
To retrieve the codes I used an Autel MaxiDiag Scan tool. It seems to work pretty good. Again thanks for the info.

Your very welcome.
I have a PDF for the diagnostics steps somewhere.
Let me know if you need it.

Your going to need a good scanner to clear the ABS codes. Usually the first code that comes up drives the ABS computer to push more codes than what the problem is, but I've also seen all those things need to be replaced too. I had a similar problem with my truck and it was the drivers side front sensor wire. A little shrinky dink and solder and it been good for 20,000 miles...........northern roads suck in the winter
