1996 f-350 4x4 is getting hot. If I pull a trailer it will get HOT HOT. If I drive under 65 it will not get hot any thing over that and the temp starts to rise. If I slow down the heat will fall. I've changed the thermostat, Gutted the thermo. Flushed radiator, got rid of the catalytic converter, cleaned rad. fins. It has been suggested to change clutch fan but that makes not sense to me as fan does not do much at speeds. HELP PLEASE
When you say you "gutted the thermo", do you mean you made the thermostat inoperative? If so, that isn't helping you at all. The coolant needs to spend a little time in the radiator so it can cool before going back into the block. The cooling system on these trucks is quite efficient, so I'd suspect that you've got a flow problem. Either a blockage, or a weak water pump.
Everything I have done has helped the problem but has not fixed it. When you speak of blockage what do you mean? The water pump is less than a year old. I was thinking of using a stronger flush to see if it would do anything. How would you check for a weak pump?
Sorry to get off subject a little bit but how do you like your 96 f-350 psd overall? Im looking to buy one and was curious if i should get the f-250 instead. Thanks
