I blew off a car show with cool bands playing to work on my truck and now I can't get the parts until later in the week. So, Hi, my name is Johnny and I like most anything Ford and everything truck. I just got a 59 F 100 short bed flair side that will be a daily driver. It almost is now, I'm working out the bugs of sitting and cobbled together electronics. What I have is in fair shape, rust and dents are to a minimum. Someone installed a 70s era 200 cu in six cylinder and C4 automatic trans some time in the past. A tune up and a rebuilt carb have it running and starting pretty well. The under dash wiring is butchered beyond belief but someone installed all new steel brake lines and hoses. They also installed plastic windows in both doors. It's a Custom Cab but I think in name only as it only has a lock in the passenger door. It did come new with a 292 V8 and auto trans with electric wipers. That is pretty plush for a 59 truck. Immediate upgrades include dual master cylinder and I might just go for power assist while I'm at it. Down the road, I will come up with money for IFS with power steering (it rides like TRUCK!) and air conditioning. Right now, I just want to make it safe to drive. It's not nearly as bad to steer as everyone says. I had a pair of 62s and a 61 F100 back in the 70s. The 61 was one of those all in one bed and cabs. I loved that truck. Anyway, I'm no stranger to old cars and the joy and frustration they can bring. This forum has be a valuable source of info already and I've only been on here a couple of days. And in conclusion, people say these years, the 57 to 60 don't get much attention, I say ditch the slab side and get fenders and a step. Every where I go, people come out of the wood work to look at it. Wait until it's fixed up a little.
I've had it 2 weeks and just when one thing is fixed something else gets weird. My headlights worked fine until I took it out last night. Anyway, you have a keen eye. The Fairlane and panel are also mine. I've had the panel for a long time and unfortunately, it had to sit for about 6 years and it's a mess. It's a 54 Chevy(sorry, I love any truck) and it's on a 73 Chevelle frame, 350/350 PS/pb factory front disks. It needs everything. I'll probably sell it. The Fairlane I bought back in May but was having a hard time getting a proper title. I just got that straightened out. It too will be a driver. Except for the wheels and an alternator, it's totally stock 292 Ford O Matic. It needs a lot but seems to run well, or it will with TLC.
