Brake line replacement 2003 expedition

I just had the brake line on my 2003 expedition split right under the spiral wrapped section by the drivers side front wheel. Brake pedal went flat to the floor but I was able to stop, crimp the line, and limp it home. Lines are very rusted and I should replace them all.

Has anyone undertaken this job already? I'm just starting to look into it and it seems like a job I should be able to accomplish. I think I can just rent the double flare tool at Auto Zone or Advance Auto. What size are the lines? Anyone know what fittings I need? Should I get Poly-Armour, Copper-Nickel lines, or something else?

I appreciate any advice. Thankfully this happened during nice weather with some days off coming up so I can work on it. Motorcycle works well to get me to work in the summer much better than in the winter!

Same thing happened with my rear line last week. for my 2001 Navigator the lines were 3/16.

You need a decent double flare tool or else you risk making bad flares. Click the link below to check out the one Harbor Freight sells. This is a prime example of what NOT to buy. Do not buy this kit or any kit that even looks like it, it will leave you cursing and it will cost you many extra hours of time.

This is probably a good one:
Lisle Corporation

Being an AC specialist, I've used a tool similar to this though of a different brand. With practice, it's not difficult to use.

If anyone knows the fitting sizes I need that would really be helpful. That's my biggest unknown and while it isn't a big deal it sure would be nice to buy them all ahead of time instead of running back and forth to the store.

The fittings that came on the double flared brake lines I bought at NAPA were the correct size. What you have to be careful of is buying a brake line with a long fitting on one end and a short fitting on the other. That short fitting isn't always long enough to complete the connection and it will leak. Guess how I know that?
