Were those available as downloads or you forced to purchase new stuff?
I hope to avoid Win10 as it sounds like something I DON'T want, in any form. I'm running Win7 and Win8.1 machines mostly because the Windows Media Center is available which I use to record various over-the-air broadcast TV shows---Win10 doesn't allow that program to run.
Good thing I keep my Win8.1 machine completely off the internet.
Just went into device driver and had Win 10 update drivers.
I was satisfied with the WIN10 download on my laptop a week ago so today I received my free update offer on my desktop. It downloaded and installed flawlessly! It also looks almost like my WIN7 that I had on here. If I run into any problems I will stop back and let you know...but from what I see now..... it's good to go!
OH- I didn't run into ANY of the problems I had when I wrote up in post #13.
I did have some problems watching videos in the news feeds - me thinks it's a FLASH/Shockwave problem.... Some run ok some don't. Will wait until after 1st updates before I decide if I keep it or not.
Glad to hear that things are working for most of you. I'm still going to wait a bit.
Just read today that one of the updates is causing a permanent lockup. Sets something bad in the registry and keeps stumbling on it when it tries to reinstall. With the no choice update policy, you end up getting it, and apparently Micrsoft's skip option doesn't work on this. There is supposed to be a workaround.
Same article said that going back to an earlier OS gets harder after 30 days. W10 makes a file called windows.old when it installs that it deletes after 30 days. Don't know if you can keep a copy and rename it or not.
Wait a little (a lot) longer. I just reverted back to 7.... too many things not running right with 10 ! Video isn't ready! Some web sites haven't done there conversion yet that I use. Got some funky problems in other web sites too..... And there wasn't anyone around to help out. They are pushing 10 but don't EASILY provide help. Goodbye Win 10...at least for now.
I have been using it for a week. Just a few clicks to bring back my old internet explorer and email program. Nothing lost from the download. Nothing needed to buy.
How's the video, Ken? Now I have another (big) problem. Tried to start it this afternoon..... got as far as the HP logo and it's as far as it gets! Glad I bought Penny a computer. It was weird trying to shut it off this morning too.... it took a very long time. Thought it was doing an update.
Oops...this latest problem was NOT WIN 10!! I neglected to clean the heat sink fins on my processor. Not being able to pull the heat off the processor, the automatic shut off kept it from starting. Pulled the heat sink and vacuumed off the BOTTOM of the fins. Reassembled and I'm now using it again! The dust ***** had the fins completely blocked..... Added to annual maintenance list.

Bud if you pull the heat sink don't forget to put some Heat Sink compound on it..
Wiped/cleaned off the the bottom of the heat sink and the top of the processor then applied a nice clean coat of new compound to the processor and reattached the heat sink on top of it! I've done this before. Glad I HAD to check it - the old compound was really dry and come in a number of areas!
Appreciate the reminder Don even tho I had already done it. Maybe someone else will read this an be reminded!
