CB Radio's?

After searching the forums for info on CB radios, I was unable to determine if no one is running them, or if I was unable to find anything.

So who is running a CB Radio in their truck? And what kind of equipment are you running?

When i drove my rig was a highly modified RCI2950 and Wilson antenna on drivers side mirror, some guys run connex radios but there are all kinds of 2-ways to choose from, you might be happy with a Cobra or Uniden, choose one that has the features you need, tune for lowest SWR and get your ham license and start running 2-meter..

Have fun !!

I've enjoyed playing with CB radios since I was a teenager and tried to get my friends into it but cellphones were there interest, I've only really used cobra 29's of different variations except an old Pace CB Grandpa gave me.
The set ups I've had, 88 Ranger with duel 8 foot whips and an old Pace CB Radio (I could pick up anything within who knows how many miles!), 94 F150 with a 8 foot whip and Cobra 29 that I transferred into my 06 super duty and worked very well until dumb the garage door ate the whip and turned it into a spiral. My 89 Ranger also has a Cobra 29-something CB Radio with dual 48 inch sticks mounted to the toolbox.

I very rarely actually have someone I know to talk to and most often just listen to people with more powerful radios that I have from states away but have at the same time very much enjoyed having a CB in my truck.

when the weather permits you can run skip and bounce the signal off the sky and talk to somebody hundreds of miles away clear as a bell, how about it SKIPLAND SKIPLAND SKIPLAND,, you could pick up somebody in the next state or the next country, you just never know where the signal is going to come down, brings back memories of the ole days and I'm only 55 but i drove truck for 11 years cross country running LTL in a shiny black W900L and chromed out reefer trailer..

I may have to put another rig in my van now that we're talking about it, damnit

here's a good article on running skip or DX'n..

I have a CB in my work truck and my Dodge. I haven't put on in my excursion yet. I am still figuring out what I am going to do. I like using them when we go camping because its fun conversation with everyone pulling the toyhaulers. Once I get rid of my 5th wheel for a travel trailer toy hauler I will be more inclined to get another.

I run Cobra in most of the time. have a Uniden somewhere. Looking to find a radio that I can have my CB and 2 meter Bendix King all rolled into one. I like dialing in my old station frequencies when I roll by the fire house.

CB Radio's?

I run an icom 706mk2g with an 102 inch whip antenna with antenna tuner covers cb through the 20m ham band just fine. 2m/440 mag mount gives me vhf uhf although those bands are pretty dead in my area.

Older thread, I know. I was just scanning thru the forums and came across this.

Uniden 880 AM/Weather. I changed out antennas to a Wilson 1000 magnet mount last winter and have been real happy with it. I have it pretty much permanently set on my drivers side hood by the window. I used to have a dual band VHF/UHF lip mount there but I wasn't getting as good of signal out as a magnet mount on top of the roof so I switched to that and removed my nice lip mount and delegated that to rental cars when I have them for work.

My Ham radio was replaced with a Kenwood TM-V71A a month or two ago. Nice radio, 50 watts both bands. My FT-857D is still on the work bench so for HF, when I run it out of the truck, I use my Kenwood TS-2000. Overkill for mobile, but nice radio. I have been more active on 160 meters mobile than anywhere else recently. Go figure. 75/80m doesn't work - unless you have a 1000w amp no one talks to you. For as little signal as I get out with 100w in on 160 I have had some real nice QSO's there and have participated in a lot of nets on my travels. I'll be doing the same tomorrow night - rolling out to Hamvention in Dayton for the weekend.

I've never run 160m mobile. I've done 80m but for me I find I'm on cb or 20m most of the time. Just listening more then anything. I've been thinking about buying another Kenwood ts2000 for the house again. The spark for radio is coming back. It never ends does it.

Recently bought an 07 F250 with a 6.0. With my handi talkie (Yaesu VX8-DR) and a mag mount Larson dual band antenna I get a lot of RFI that I can't squelch out when the engine is running. Am wondering if this is typical with the diesel engine in my truck.
