Steering box replacement
Steering box replacement
would it logical to ****** a used steering box from a truck at the JY? mine is leaking atf a little and well i dont feel like spending 160 for a new one. would it be safe to check a few at the JY and get the one that looks the best in shape?
Unfortunately, "looks" of it have absolutely no bearing on its mechanical condition..
As with all things j/y related, you really have no way of knowing the condition it's in. If you don't mind the gamble, have at it.
If yours is just leaking, I'd probably just fix the leak.

Lucas power steering conditioner, or whatever the hell they call it, works great on slow leaky boxes. As do most products designed to stop transmission leaks.
I'd do that before a jy box, but then again I don't care much about automagic rust prevention.....I mean small leaks.
