Problems pulling codes off F250 with EEC-IV

1989 F250HD with EEC-IV

I found the EEC-IV connector and I am jumping SIG RTN to STI. Then I am turning the key to ON (engine off). The test procedure says Check Engine Light should then flash out the codes. However, nothing happens. I tried dozens of times already.

Something is obviously missing. Am I not getting the contact somehow? This is a very simple test. Should I clean the connectors - if so, how? What else should I try?

Instead of using the dash light, I would try using the analog voltmeter method and see if it works.

Pin 17 at the pcm may have been removed from the harness or cut to keep the CK eng lamp from commming on.

I will try the voltmeter method.

Secondly, where is the PCM located?

Also, looking at the EEC IV connector, I don't see anything at the STO recepticle. There doesn't appear to be any metal there. Don't know if that's how it should be.

I got some cleaner for electrical connections. I will spray the recepticles with that.

Look in my signature link in the GP Pics album for a picture showing the location of the EEC under the L hood hinge, and in the Diagrams album for the pinout of the EEC TEST connector.
