Delete and tunner choices? Help
Delete and tunner choices? Help
The diesel shop I go to gave me a few options. I'm new to this whole diesel thing. I've had my 6.4 since March and love it. I currently get 15 mpg. But had a few issues about a month back and took it in to get checked on. And the particle filter was throwing codes and is below performance. So I have the option of doing a 4" stainless all the way back and I want to straight pipe it. Then was given the option of a Mini Max and a SCT Live wire custom tunner. The place I'm getting it done at has never really worked with the custom tunners. And to me going that route seems a little sketchy. But the prices I was given was Mini Max $1600-1800 and SCT $1100 I have no problem with price wise because you pay what you get for and I want the best. But now I also have to decide between doing the EGR delete or not. Because eventually it will need to be done. Which will cost me $300 plus 8 hours of labor. I have no issue of money. So I guess I am wonder on how others have had luck with. Estimate for my exhaust+Mini Max and EGR with the labor is $3800. Estimate for my exhaust +SCT and EGR with labor is $3300.
I have a SCT with tunes from Innovative Diesel and Gearhead Automotive Performance, both are great tuners don't count them out, have been running them on my truck for over 30k miles and have had zero issues.
Delete and tunner choices? Help
Welcome to the 6.4L! And to FTE.
As for the tuner, it seems a lot of times it's a choice between H&S and Spartan. I don't really know a lot about the different tuners. I have an H&S and I like it. The preloaded tunes work well and if you want more later you can always get in touch with someone who can do custom tuning for the H&S.
The EGR delete... Some folks just leave the EGR coolers in place, because when you tune it to turn off the EGR system, leaving it all in place won't matter much because it'll never open the EGR valve up. So in that theory, with no hot exhaust gasses passing through the coolers, there would be very little risk that a cooler would fail.

Our devices retail for 1499.00 with all power levels included, up to 350RWHP, with DPF on and race tunes (deletes).
Honestly, 3300 to 3800 dollars is way out in left field as far as price, for any good quality tuning with delete and intake.
Give us a call, we can put together a package for you. We are also sponsoring here on the site again, so as far as support goes, you can find us here, as well as contacting us through the normal venues.
