First road trip

Took the 2015 to the Outer Banks. We live in WV. One way distance is 502 miles. Really happy with this SUV. Plenty of room. Mileage is at 19.6 for the trip. We hit plenty of good size hills on the route and for that reason alone I am ecstatic with the mpg. It hovered in the 16's through the mountains. Hit some flatter terrain and it just kept climbing. Lots of traffic around Hampton and Norfolk. Awesome power! Nav worked flawless.

Well, made it home yesterday. Had a great week in the OBX. And tseekins, you are close to paradise sir!
This year we went Sunday to Sunday in an effort to avoid the traffic mess. It worked for the most part. The trip from OBX to my house is roughly 502 miles, give or take a few. It is all I64 through Virginia and just outside VA beach, you take a state route, mainly 4 lane road (roughly 70 miles). There are some good hills on I64 through West Virginia/Virginia. About 250 miles until it "flattens" out. I've taken this trip many times in many vehicles. Next to the 7.3 Excursion I had, this Expedition was the best for the "hills". That Ecoboost just ate them up.
I reset the average mpg when we left our house and I didn't reset the entire trip. The back was fully loaded, and there were 4 of us in the Expy. The final mpg average was 19.3. Again, that includes everything from the drive to and from, the sitting in traffic, the local driving in OBX, etc. I averaged 2-5 mpg above speed limit on the interstate. The best mpg I seen was the stretch from the OBX to Newport News on the return trip. I reset at the hotel when we left and we made it about 90 miles until we hit a 40 min traffic jam in I64. Mpg was 22. From that point to home it ended up at 19.7.
I sound fixated on mpg but that is only one observation. The Expedition itself was a joy to drive. Very Quiet, braking and steering was solid, the NAV was flawless, etc. The mpg is a bonus. On the steeper hills, those turbos just shrugged them off. Literally it was like driving a diesel. Very good match for the Expedition.
I'm curious as to what Ford does with a redesign. I agree the interior could be a little more modern in terms of storage bins, the second row seats could use a bit more legroom, and the front seat bottoms could use lengthening (I am 6'3). I hope they add the 2.7 ECO as an option and I assume they will go aluminum like the F150.
One last "wish". Drop the crazy prices for these things!
