The Dana 60 was used in a lot of the F series trucks with the FE engine. It should be plenty stout and the transmission in between should not really matter other than possibly driveshaft yokes or little things like that depending on what you mix and match.
All of my trucks have Dana 60 rear and two have FE and one of those is automatic. Should be completely fine. The 240/300 to FE swap is fairly common, especially in the 2WD trucks.
Your trucks are F250's, have Dana 60's. The OP's truck is an F100, AXLE code is C5 = Dana 60.2
The Dana 60 is not the same rear axle as the Dana 60.2 & Dana 60.3
Dana 60.2: 1963/66 F100 (5 lug wheels) / Dana 60.3: 1966/69 F100 (5 lug wheels) / Dana 60: 1955/85 F250 & 1979 F350 4WD (8 lug wheels).
ND,
What about the casting #'s i shared earlier? Were they of any help? Could I assume these two or three Dana's are close to the same with similar specs/gear ratios? I know now, that it will be a PITA to swap rear suspension/diff so wilt 60.2 work well with the donor eng/trans? I am sorry I'm not a purist but this build has a special purpose. Comfort and burnouts.
Thanks
didn't the 65/66 f100s have narrower rear ends dana 44 than 9in? No.
left spring perches don't line up.
Springs, spring hangers, shackle brackets are the same with the Ford 9" and the Dana rear axles.
If the spring hangers or shackle brackets don't line up, one of the rear spring leafs may be broken, causing the axle to shift over to one side, the truck will 'dog track' as a result.
ND- didn't we already confirm the suspension from the 66 wasn't the same and couldn't receive the 73 diff, without heavy modification ( i.e relocating spring perches, shackle mounts, shock mounts)?? I'm confused. Sorry
I would stick with a rear end from years 65/66 my 65 dana 44 leaf spring perches that are mounted on axle case don't line up,in a 67 0r 60,i tried swaping it,had to move them out toward tires,
