You can also find an old lawn mower engine and rig it up with a chain or belt to run an alternator to produce cheap and portable 12v D.C. to charge batteries.

Nope. I'm actually installing a replacement solar charger tomorrow on my open deck trailer. I've put them on all my trailers to keep the batteries charged.
