I got the P249F code after the truck I was looking at buying went into what seemed like a continual regen state. I read around the forum and found the code is sometimes associated with EGT sensor 12. I replaced sensor 12 got rid of the CEL, but still had the continual regen state. I decided to replace the EGT sensors 13 and 14 on either side of the DPF. Presto, all fixed. I bought the truck and it had this issue when I test drove it. The truck ran too well to have a plugged DPF, so I took a chance and bought it. From what I have learned in reading all of the posts about EGT sensors, It seems like replacing all 4 each time there is an issue is cheap insurance. The problematic sensors on my truck looked to be an older design possibly the factory ones. Thus the reason for replacing all 4 together. I plan on carrying a spare EGT sensor similar to the spare CPS I carried with my 7.3l PSDs. Thanks to all for the info. It gave me a huge bargaining chip while buying this truck and getting it fixed within a few hours of getting it home. I ended up getting the truck for $7000 below book value because of this issue.
I just bought it, so title has not been transferred yet. I am working away from home right now and have two crew cabs and a fifth wheel to get home. Still have to figure that one out.
The 2 letters I have received from Ford since I got my 2012 F-250.
Are 15E03 and 15M01
15M01 is for EGT sensors replaced, even if out of warranty.
Have to get this done by Nov 30, 2015.
15E03 is a bunch of controller software updates, regarding the pollution crap.
I will have to look into the updates, though I think it may have been done already. The guy I bought the truck from said he had it into ford recently for a programming update.
