EGT DISASTER

WELL MY WORST FEARS CAME TRUE TODAY, HEADED FOR A THREE DAY VACATION AT THE DEER LEASE GET 100 MILES FROM HOME AND GET THE STOP SAFLEY NOW SCREEN FOLLOWED BY MY TRUCK SHUTTING DOWN. LUCKILY I WAS GOING THROUGH DIBOL AND ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I HAD A CEL COME ON TWO DAYS AGO AND HAD STOPPED BY AUTO ZONE AND GOT THE CODE READ. MY TRUCK WAS SHOWING P242A WHICH I DISCOVERED WAS EGT SENSOR THREE IN BANK 1. I FIGURED I COULD FIX THE TRUCK WHEN I GOT BACK FROM HUNTING BUT BOY WAS I WRONG. TWO HOURS WAITING FOR MY BUDDY TO BRING A SENSOR TO ME FROM HOUSTON AND AFTER LOCATING SENSOR NUMBER 3, TRUCK WOULD STILL NOT START. GOT A CODE READER FROM AUTO ZONE AND TRIED TO CLEAR CODES BUT CODE WOULD NOT CLEAR. FINALLY MY BUDDY READ ON A FORUM AND WE TRIED GROUNDING THE STARTER. TRUCK TURNED OVER AND AFTER THAT I WAS ABLE TO START TRUCK WITH KEY, CODES CLEARED AND CEL WENT OFF. NOW SEVERAL HOURS LATE FOR MY DATE WITH SOME DEER AND FEARING MY TRUCK WOULD DIE AGAIN I SIT ON MY COUCH TYPING THIS THREAD.
ANYBODY ELSE HAVE A SIMILAR STORY?? LETS GET THEM POSTED HERE AND SEE HOW MANY WE CAN GET. MAYBE JUST MAYBE THOSE IDIOTS WHO DECIDED A FAULTY $50 SENSOR SHOULD SHUT DOWN A $60,000 TRUCK WILL HELP US OUT WITH A SOLUTION. MAYBE UDATE COMPUTER TO NOT SHUT DOWN UNTIL TWO SENSORS ARE READING HIGH TEMPS....... JUST A THOUGHT FROM A NEW MEMBER... I LOVE MY TRUCK 2011 LARIAT F250 TUXEDO BLACK...JUST PISSED IT COST ME A HUNTING TRIP

This has been the topic of many threads here on the FTE in both the 6.4L and 6.7L sections. Same sensor, different style electrical connections. That is why several of us carry a couple of extra sensors, code reader and a 13mm wrench with us at all times. Even Chevy has problems with these, only theirs goes into limp mode an enables you to drive the truck, unlike Ford.
On a side note, please don't type in all caps, it makes everyone think you are yelling at them!
Sorry about your hunting trip, but glad you got it figured out. Welcome to the FTE and something else to think about, that's also a reason some people delete the DOC/DPF and sensors!

with these senors going bad it would be nice to know how many miles are on these trucks and when the senors go out.

There is nothing like coming in with guns blazing in all CAPS on your first post! How many other forums did you register on to make this rant?

Sorry, but it gets old seeing people come to a forum with a first post like this. I understand the frustration, but seriously at least introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your situation. Hopefully you are here to contribute to this forum in the future and not just to complain about Ford. If you are looking to cost Ford business over this, there is a guy on RV.net that you should meet!

Got my spare AC3Z-5J213-B yesterday, in the tool box. Now I just need to back out all the sensors and dab a little anti-seize on them. I figure it's cheap insurance and besides, I like doing things myself.

I have Chevy, GMC and Dodge friends that all have had EGT probe issue or other related emission system problems. The issues is too strict emissions too quickly implemented and forced on by the EPA. Consumers pay the price and it affects all manufacturers. Ford is no better or worse than the other manufacturers as far as I'm concerned.

Ha, exactly. Never see someone post up "Man all these mechanics running and not a single issue at all - this is amazing"

@#$%!!! One more part that I have to worry about. Almost makes me want to return to my '06 with a V10 and impossible but easy to break spark plugs.

NOW, my question, where is this EGT sensor located? In the exhaust and if so, where on those pipes? It sounds like I need to carry one of them as a necessary part along with a jug of DEF.

Any yet for my 08 with over 86K hard towing miles never a sensor failure.

Not everyone will have one. Yes it should not happen in the manner it does but there are some that have never failed.
