HI Ya'll. I have a 7.3L 1997 F250 with about 205k miles. I believe that most of the engine is original. I was told recently that the catalytic converters can accumulate build-up over time and that the corresponding resistance could damage the turbos. Is there any truth to this and should I remove/replace the converters?
Other question. I'm having a hard time to get the hubs to work. When I switch to 4X4 low I enage the hubs to the lock position, then I roll back and forth a few times but I still get a real weird behavior in the steering wheel, suggesting the hubs are not functioning normally. Should I think about replacing these too.
cant tell in ur state but diesels here don't need inspections UNLESS they are 2005 up. with that said the 99-03 &.3 in the super duty have no cat,so id just cut the cat out and weld in a piece of straight pipe
the hubs seem to work when turned to lock right? if your on a hard surface and try to turn in 4wd you will feel kickback in the steering wheel
Thanks for your input. I'll look into the converter thing. I feel kickback in the steering wheel on all surfaces, even snow. The online manual is not very helpful on this. Is it OK to operate the truck in 4wd without locking the hubs, if you're not on the low gears? I've had difficulty sometimes to get the kickback to go away after resetting the hubs to the free position, even after going back and forth several times. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just do away with them and put more recent hubs on.
do you have the free/lock hubs? if so take them off take them apart and clean them and only apply a super thin film of grease. They might just be sticking, my 1997 F250 heavy duty had its free/lock hub do this a good degreasing and light lube was all thats needed
