i have a 2000 F-250 diesel 4x4 which i got stuck the other day, the axles were under the mud, i got it out, nothin damaged to the truck, but the front hubs will not disengage for nothin. Is there something i should check before i take apart the front end, and isn't there sealed bearings in the front. How would i go on disassembling the hubs, and what to look for to see if they are bad?
I am guessing you have manuals, that is all I have ever seen on Super Duty Fords. I had the same problem after sinking my 84 in a pond. The hubs got gunked up with silt and junk that was in the water and could not move so they would fully disengage or engage. As a result they made a ratchety sound. The fix was simple, remove and disassemble the hubs, clean, reassemble and reinstall. They work great now.
the super duties have these auto man hubs, you can lock them in manually, or set them to auto, and they will lock and unlock from the switch, but there is no way to unlock them manually
you know you have to back up so many feet for them to unlock in auto mode.....i have had my auto hubs (got rid of them) submerged for 8 hours and there was not a drop of water or gunk inside.
you cant repack the wheel bearings on the duties cause they are sealed unit bearings, and you can wither get manual hubs that you can lock and unluck, or the auto hubbs that are auto, or you can lock them manually
