1978 Rancharo

I have a 1978 Ranchero. When I look up the vin. number 8H48S167549 it tells me I have a 400. But when I look under the hood the label on the valve cover is a 351.

someone probably changed the engine or the valve cover over the past 37 years.

Either the valve cover or the engine has been changed.

8 = 1978.

H = Lorain OH Assembly Plant.

48 = Ranchero GT, body style 97R

S = 400.

167549 = 1978 Numerical Sequence of Assembly.
