I just bought a 1977 ford f150 and I was told that the engine had beed changed out , how can I tell for sure and if so how can I tell what engine is in the truck now? any help you can give would be great
There should be a sticker on the valve cover indicating the engine type (if it's still there and ligible). If not, start by how many cylinders it has (6 or 8). If it's 8, count the valve cover bolts.
yeah it has 8 bolts on the valve cover, i know by the vin that it came with a 302 and I have no idea how to go about measuring the stroke there was no sticker on the valve cover but there is a number stamped on the manifold im not sure if this can tell me anything
One is with a rope, the other with a piece of doweling.
With the dowel located in the sparkplug hole into the cylinder ....You basically turn the engine over so the piston goes to the bottom of its travel.
Make a mark on the dowel for lowest point or BDC.
Now turn the engine over so the piston comes to TDC ...mark the dowel.
The difference between the 2 marks is the length of stroke.
