I have a '99 Ford Explorer 4x4 with a V8 and a F8.8 Rear End that needs replacement. I have been unable to find a used one with 4.10s or even any F8.8 that is supposed to be swappable into an Explorer with a V8 here in Tampa, Florida. The Yards here tell me that a F8.8 out of a V6 Explorer will not work. Is that true and what are the differences between the two Assemblies?
I'm not a Mechanic... just a Shade Tree Driveway Enthusiast. I appreciate the help.
Would I be able to switch in a Mountaineers 8.8 made for a V8?
Are there any other Rear Axle Assemblies that would work for me?
I still need it to have 4.10 Gearing.
The Explorer and Mountaineer are the same vehicle just different dress, so yes that would be a direct swap. What is wrong with your existing axle that the whole thing has to be replaced?

Would you happen to know the Differences between a V6's and a V8's F8.8?
I need to replace my F8.8 Axle Assembly because of Bent Axle Tubes. I should have Trussed it. I am an avid OffRoader.
I have a '96 Jeep XJ that my son and I have Built. We thought we would try and take the Ford through it's paces. Oh, well. What can I say?

I have a '99 Ford Explorer 4x4 with a 5.0 V8 and a F8.8 4.10 Rear End that needs replacement. An Axle out of a V6 is not supposed to work for the V8 Explorer according to the Junk Yards I contacted.
It has been suggested that a Sport Trac may or may not work. Anyone have experience with this issue or in the know? What options do I have?
i dont know the answer, but if its a 4.10 ratio, any axle will mechanically work. the physical differences between axles i dont know. why not stop by the junk yard and have them show you why it wont work? how hard can it be to modify something to fit? maybe its not a big change?
If the problem is jusu the bent axle tubes, any F8.8 Explorer/Mountaineer rigid rear axle HOUSING will work - you can swap your components (even your disk brake assemblies) into it. It may be easier if you stay with the ones that are already disk brake equipped.
If you are not comfortable setting up the ring and pinion, get one with 4.10's and swap the entire assembly - the only difference I can imagine is that there MAY be a different driveline yoke on the V6's. In that case you will need to swap the yoke from your V8 unit to it.
