Clutch question

There is quite a lot of free play on the clutch pedal of my 52 f1...is this a major deal or is there a simple fix on this? I am learning and don't know too much about this stuff yet...thanks!

Define your meaning of "free play" please? Up/down? In/out? Side to side?

Clutch question

I apologize for not being more specific. Free play as in/out. When I push the clutch in, there is about half a petal of nothing before the I feel resistance. Hope this helps.

Welcome to FTE!

I learned very early on that I needed to buy the Shop Manual from which Ross provided that information. Do a Google search and you will find they are available from lots of sources.

Here's one from Amazon:

I appreciate the link for the shop manual...I am ordering one right after I type this. So I found where the "play" is coming from. I crawled under the truck today to check it out. The release arm rod connects to the clevis, which connected to the equalizer shaft, which appears to rotate on a ball that is attached to the frame, and then goes to the transmission. The section that rotates on the ball connected to the frame is shot...completely. It is flopping all over the place there. I just need some help from you guys to tell me what to order. I cant thank you all enough!

I meant to mention you should check those bushings... mine had been replaced by a hose clamp. The originals were made of bronze and have a tendency to crack, now Dennis Carpenter makes them out of special plastic. I think they're worth a try. While you're under there, take a grease gun and hit all the zerks on the bellhousing clutch shaft, the pedals, etc.

You put the bushing halves onto the ball, then put the equalizer over them. There is a spring inside the equalizer to push it towards the trans.

edit: you might want to call JobLot, they're closer and great folks: (718) 468-8585 p/n C2TZ-7517-A (old number 01A-7517)
Besides the manual, the Parts CD is a great investment: http://www.hipoparts.com/1948-56-for...ts-catalog-cd/

I just ordered the part using the link you provided. I greatly appreciate your help! Gotta bear with me, I am new to all this stuff and learning as I go. I bought the truck from a good friend of the family, and it needs things here and there, but am enjoying driving it and tinkering with it...i think i found a new addiction. We are moving in about another year to a house with more land where I want to put up a pole barn and tear this thing apart...should provide good fun and bonding for me and my son.

Plenty of grease anyway... If the ball is roached, you can get new ones (comes as part of the bracket): 01Y-7507
Available from VanPelt Sales, Ford Transmission Parts Prices - Page 3
JobLot may also have it, they have almost nothing online.
