I've got a 91 f150 302 m50d 164 tooth flywheel the flywheel hit the starter before but I put a 390 ring over the end of it so not anymore I'm curious why it does it to begin with also I have towed 4 70s k20s a c20 a ranger a Monte Carlo and a stacker at a mine (a few feet) every time I do it I think it'll be different but every time I have to get a new starter all under warranty but I need this not to happen I wrapped it in aluminum foil but haven't towed anything since any thoughts
What brand starter? Some of the aftermarkets are JUNK.
Otherwise instead of aluminum foil try some header wrap or buy an actual starter blanket. Or make a steel heat shield out of some sheet metal like Ford does for the electrical connector on the E4OD.
I've never had good luck with reman starters from the parts house. I did have a starter rebuilt once by a shop and it worked fine but that was for a twin cyl. Briggs motor.
Try better heat shielding and if that don't work out then get a Motorcraft starter.
It has a car motor with truck exhaust and does there need to be a flywheel spacer or something because it leaves grind marks in the nose without that ring on it
I believe I solved it the exhaust manifolds are off the car the motor came from I thought it said f0 it actually says e0 and it came from an automatic so I imagine the exhaust manifolds are only meant to work with the smaller flywheel
What do you think of putting short headers on it do they bolt right up as in direct fit will they give me a check engine light will the last for a while
