Getting ready to fire this late '04 6 liter up tomorrow. Did HG and Studs,,etc.. My question is Oil Priming before start up, I saw the video on youtube about pulling a relay for the ficm, my owners manual only talks about a fuse for the ficm and its behind a panel on the dash. Did Ford wire these trucks differently? I may have to bother Ed on this question, Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would just do some cranking using the method in this video then you don't have to bother with replays, just make sure you leave the key in the off position so its not attempting to start. I would crank it this way for 20 seconds or so at a time with giving the starter a rest in between, do maybe 1 1/2 minutes then try starting it with the key.
I know this has nothing to do with the topic but I was changing my oil for the first time on my 03 F250 6.0L and my oil filter and seen this it doesn't have a regular spring in it so is this good or bad to have and yes this is my first 6.0L
Well the main reason I am asking is because it has no springing action to it and it's not like the other pics or the videos I've seen when I look up on how to do th oil change only so here is a better pic
Later models have the spring. That is the 03-04 version of stand pipe.
I have been guilty of using the remote start wire to prime,, however,, anymore I only use it to prime lpo. Let's think about this,, without the IPR energized,,, what is the hpo doing (or where is it going)? Just something to think about. I've never heard anyone mention the fact that the remote start wire won't prime the hpo system. But I've heard it mentioned a bunch to prime with. Hopefully not stepping on toes Brett!!!!

Whether you have the IPR energized or not, it still pushes the oil through the rails. I prime using the starter trigger wire near the fender/firewall.
Want proof, next time leave out the ICP and crank it. I usually leave it loose and in between 10 second cranks I'll remove it to relieve air pressure and check for oil flow.

You're not stepping on my toes bro, that is a very astute observation and one I had not thought of.
It will crank to 200 psi,, plus or minus. But when it's energized,, it will pump to 1500,, then drop back down to 700-900 while continuing to crank. It's at that time that it can release some air pockets back through the IPR back to the crankcase. No way it's gonna release all the air,, but maybe some of it. I normally do 2 or three cranks like that. The remote wire primes as good as when a bad IPR valve is in use. But 14% WILL still pump some oil. That's how I do it,, and others do it other ways.
The Ficm relay is in the under hood panel,, on an 04,, it would be the one closest to the rear passenger taillight. Hope that makes sense. I explain 05 n up as being closest to the passenger headlight. That's referring to its placement in the box.
