Wife has her heart set on Hyundai Sonata, any thoughts on the car would be appreciated. I want her to get a Volkswagen Passat, but you can't beat the price on the Sonata. Thanks.
I think the Hyundai is a great option. Can't beat the warranty and build quality has improved vastly over the decades. I'm not too sure how well they hold their value so I say, the crap out of it till it has 99K miles on it then dump for another if you liked it.
Yeah that's what I am afraid of, we are trading in a Subaru Outback and it is amazing how much that vehicle retained its value. I want her to get a Volkswagen Passat. I know what everyone is thinking, Fusion, right? For some reason she just doesn't like it.
my mom has a sonata and she doesnt ever get the oil changed regulary or serivice it at all and she has never had a problem with it since she bought it new 105k ago so i would say it is a champ lol
I would buy the Sonatta or Outback before I would even remotely think about a modern VW . Out of warranty or out of service area , a modern VW is a bear to get parts for and diagnosed properly !
That said , I put 408K on a 73 Beetle , and a buddy put almost 600k on a Rabbit , so I am not a Hater .
The absolute only newer VW I would consider would be a TDI, and even then the modern emissions garbage has taken a significant chunk out of the mileage.
Hyundais are OK, if it has a timing belt make sure to change it at the specified mileage or earlier or it will break.
I scrapped a Sonota last month. Totally worthless automobile IMO. You couldn't pay me to own one... I would much rather take the VW, and definitely a TDI if you can swing it.

My daughter just a 2015 Fusion and I'm not in love with it either. In fact, I would buy one just because I don't like how it's laid out.
Has the Subaru been good? The Legacy sedan might be worth a look.
The Subaru has been fine, albeit a little coarse, rough ride, developed rattles, minor stuff. It needs brakes and tires so now is as good as ever. Looking to downsize, last child will be gone in the fall. Thanks for all the input, I must say I am a fan of the way Volkswagens drive. Had a few of them and my brotherinlaw has a Passat now. Will see what happens this weekend.
did you purchase the sonata? Im in the market for a car. I have been driving larger vehicles including semis for a long time now and looking for a little comfort. I bought my ex wife a 06 sonata and it was a good car no major repairs just the normal everyday stuff (tires, brakes, etc..)
I regret not buying a Passat TDI 2 years ago. I was looking around during the summer of 14 because I was commuting about 160 miles a day. Fuel prices were on their way down but not as low as today. It was a nice car and most were getting mpg's in the low 50s.
I enjoyed the Fusion, had the 2.0l Ecoboost Titanium and all the toys. Really nice car. My sister has the Sonota, she loves it, and I do have to say, it is a really nice looking car!! I had not heard of her having any problems at all.
Just thumbing through the threads and saw that this one has over 3k views. I can only imagine its because truck guys are wondering what the heck a thread on a Hyundai is doing on FTE website...
