I have a 03 EB HDTow package with approx 52,000 miles on it. It runs and looks great and has all the options I want. Just looking at the 07 Expys and was wondering.....
Is it worth the extra 60HP and 15ftlbs of torque?. The styling is a little different but I don't know if it's worth the beating I'd get on a trade.
Speak yer mind!!!
Personally, I never buy new. I let the original owner take the hit on the first 2-3 years of depreciation. That way, I'm never upside-down and I pay my vehicles off a lot faster when I owe less to begin with.
Consider this; I purchased my 2001 in 2004 for 35% of the original MSRP, and I'll probably drive it longer than most people who buy them new.
I might own a 2007 someday, but it most likely won't be in this decade.
I agree with Novice. But ask yourself this. Do you want to buy something that someone else has had, not knowing how it was treated, and possibly out of warranty. Or do you want to pay extra for something you know is new off the line with a full36/36000 warranty. Some want that newness, so to speak. Some dont care if it was owned previously. Its all up to you. Some vehicle have so called "bullet-proof" engines and will last forever. Some you really dont want to take a chance on. Also, depreciation, like Novice said. These trucks aren't cheap new. So do you want to take the hit as soon as you drive it off the lot, or let someone else pay it down.

In that case, there are only two reasons to buy a new one. One of them was already said by Doogie Howser:

The other is the extra power that you mentioned.

I dunno...I'm a financial analyst, so I'm always going to lean towards the choice that makes the most financial sense. Buying a new car is always a bad idea financially speaking. And that "newness" wears off quickly. I love my truck and keep it maintained meticulously (sp). That should keep it running great for a long, long time.
Awesome! It's cool that you were able to fight "new car fever" that well. I just want to say that if you can truly afford it, there's really nothing wrong with buying a new car, but if you buy a 2007 in, say 2008, you just saved well over $10k plus you will never be upside down on the vehicle. If Ford could make a $40k vehicle that was worth a lot more than $20k in 2 years (didn't depreciate like every other car on the road), it would be a completely different story. That's just the nature of the beast though.
Thanks for the feedback. My Expy is paid for also and very good point were made.
I'm keepin' her.
Good move. Unless you're planning on a bigger travel trailer, I'd run it as long as it will run. My '03 has been bulletproof towing.
I've driven the newer Expy and the motor is great around town but I really don't think it will make a big diff with a load. It actually has a higher sweet spot on the rpm band. One the road, hmm, you may be able to pull 5 mph better on a grade?
