Question Chrome Plating

Hey Guys.

I was thinking about chrome plating my vent window frames and a couple of other things. Do platers charge per part or per batch. I know this probably a case specfic question but, in general how does it work?? How much should I expect to pay???

Thanks,
Heavy_56

Alot has to do with how much prep work is needed per part and how experienced the plater is. The smaller less intricate the piece is probably the less expensive. -4speed

Through the nose. Quality plating of large parts is painfully expensive. 4SPD is correct. You are paying for the prep. You can get low grade work done for cheap. It doesn't cut it in the humid Midwest as rust sets in quick. Maybe you get by with it elsewhere.
You can pay 400+ for a grill, 300 for a bumper. Nefermind the diecast emblems. Musch cheaper to buy repro parts.

BTW, I haven't forgotten you, your valance is safe. We'll hook up soon.

Bingo to above...would also add that there a few things you should look out for.

1) Some people only plate the exterior of the part

2) If your really serious go for double plating on the parts exterior and interior

3) Be prepaired for problems with dissimmilar metals in a part

That sounds good. I real only need the vent window frames done. I was thinking about doing the door handles and the v8 emblem but if it is better to replacement parts I guess Ill go that route. How much are the replacement vet window frames???

Fenders I know you haven't for gotten. Will hook up sooner or later. I just feel bad about that bamma dude. But snooze you loose.

Plating is a breeze for me. I live in San Diego, and Mexico is 20 minutes away. In mexico, there arent any pollutant/environmental laws, or crazy taxes to pay for chrome platers. I did my 55's bumper, and grill for $100 + a tip. I can pretty much give them a bunch of anything, and its always $100. To top it off, they are ALWAYS done the next weekend.

I see a problem though, as the chrome shop is right in the middle of a shantyville neighborhood. I wonder what the birth defect rate is in the neighborhood? Its a shame, but the chrome is SUPER thick, and stays shiny forever.

a HUNDRED bucks for an emblem? I guess I am lucky. Last time I went to the shop in Mexico, I noticed an oily yellow stream flowing right into the gutter, and down the street, not to mention the exhaust fans just blowing chemicals into the air. Thank Dog we live in america?

I just had my vent windows plated. It was a very good job, but it cost me $100 for the pair. This was high, but it would have cost me more to buy and ship SS units. Sacramento does not have a lot of choices. Good luck, John
