98 Ranger P1405 Code

Hey guys, I just bought a '98 Ranger 2.5l 2wd. After driving it for a week or so I got a P1405 Code.
After a quick google search I got
P1405 Ford - DPFE Sensor Circuit Upstream Hose
Possible Causes: - Faulty Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) sensor (EGR pressure sensor)
- Plugged or damaged EGR tube
- Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Now, I have done my research between forums and youtube and have found this EGR system to be quite the pain in the butt for a lot of people. I've gone ahead and replaced my DPEF. I took an air hose and blew out all the small lines coming into the DPEF. I still have the engine light. My next move is to get a volt meter and see if I'm getting power to the sensor.

My question is does anybody have experience with this particular code and is it possible I need to look farther into this EGR system (EGR Valve, EGR Hose, etc.)

Thanks for the help.

I show a Ford P1405 code as being for the DPFE sensor Upstream hose. That's the small diameter vacuum hose that provides the DPFE with its intake vacuum reference. If its not fitting tight on both ends, or is dryrotted/has cracks or splits, or is plugged, it'll corrupt the DPFE PID signal to the computer & have the computer corrupt EGR feedback, all a vicious circle.

you say you still have engine light have you reset? remove negative battery cable and wait 10 minutes and put back on,, then the system will reset it self

I don't believe it's the small vacuum hoses, I've taken an air gun and blew both lines out both have good flow. I'd like to test the voltage coming into the sensor but would that require snipping the wires near the harness and then splicing them back on?

With your vacuum gauge, measure the vacuum at the DPFE hose connection. The hose also needs not only to be unrestricted, but to be intact/not leaking along its run, or connections on both ends.
If all that is ok, have a look here for DPFE sensor testing. http://rockledge.home.comcast.net/~r...tage-Test.html
BTW, what brand replacement DPFE sensor did you opt for.

As KF4EYR asked, did you wipe the codes after replacing the DPFE sensor????
