first hey to everybody, I have an issue with a f-250 2012 fx-4, recently fuel gauge started giving me reading of low fuel level, then it would show 3/4 full then miles to empty would change a lot 100 miles up and down. so I suspected bad sending unit paid mechanic to change it but still does the same stuff. I have put a 50 gallon titan tank in it when purchased. but that was 131,000 miles ago. ford wants 250.00 just to check it, they check calibration and it checked out for 50 gallons, but when I nfiilled it up only held less than 30 gallons and show 3/4 full. Whats up with that?
I feel your pain! Just filled my tank and checked the gauge and it showed 3/4 full. I had that issues with every corvette I owned and what corrected the problem most of the time was to use fuel/injector cleaner with fuel fill up. I'm not sure if it will assist with removing deposits on the inner fuel gauge pickup but I'm going to give it a try.
Most likely it's the Instrument cluster, Gauge problems and a myriad of other problems all originate from the instrument cluster, they can include, Issues with, Dome light, Radio, TCB, VVS, Odometer/ Speedometer, FALSE Error codes, Drain batteries, Damage your FICM. Do not replace any parts or electronics until you have the cluster checked, there will be no error codes with this problem you have to send it in and checked by the repair folks, Don't use any Ford Stealership or ford parts for this, You'll just buy more crapy Ford electronics.
