Fuel gauge issue

My 2003 F350 is having some problems telling me what my fuel level is. On average my needle would not move off of full untill 110-130 miles and would see 300 miles +/- at a half of a tank. The last two tanks I might see 70-80 miles before the needle moved and 180 miles at half full. My mpg has actually increased (Aeroturbine) so I know the drop isn't due to decreased mileage. I ran to the store today and checked my fuel level with the predator and it showed 67% while my gauge said 5/8, o.k., not a problem. I drove 4 miles and my gauge dropped over an 1/8 but the predator still showed 67%. Has anyone seen or heard of this happening? I do not fill my tank with the keys in the ignition either (already learned that lesson). Thanks.

I had the same thing happen to me, mine would go to empty and I would put fuel but it would only take 20 gallons to fill up. I took my truck to dealer and they replaced my gauge cluster and I haven't had the problem since.

Gauge cluster? Not good, just went past warranty. Guess I will get used to it, like I said, the mileage isn't decreasing so I will learn to live with it.

They had a whole bunch of bad fuel sending units too. (They tried replacing my gauge cluster too, but the problem didn't go away until they replaced the sending unit in the tank.) If you *just* went past warranty, maybe you can talk them into fixing it? It's not an uncommon problem, Ford knows they had a run of bad parts.

From: I live in rural Alberta,
Both my 02 and my 04 do something similar to what you described. I had the guages replaced in the 02 and the sending unit, and it still did it from time to time. Then the 04 started doing it too. I think it's a Ford thing I do notice that the odd time when I leave the key in and the radio playing when fueling up (I know bad, but sometimes I just can't resist Greenday) the guage will act up and only show 3/4 full til I drive about 25 klicks, then she slowly goes to full. Also when I squeeze in every drop possible usuall 40 litres past the click-off she will take over 200 kms to come off full then almost immediately go to half tank, then back up the next time I start it. Again, this only happens when I leave the key in during fuel-up.
