First and foremost, thanks for having this great forum and allowing me to post and ask questions about a make I have ZERO experience with.
Anyhow, onto the back story and question!
I recently inherited a 1977 F150 Ranger from my father. The only information he was able to tell me was he was the third owner, truck is a 1977 with a 400CID. The truck has 80,XXX original miles on it. He also stated the stripes on the side are original but backwards.
Anyhow, onto my question for you fine folks here. What exactly do I have sitting in my driveway? I have done the VIN decoding through the LMC magazine, but know nothing else about it. If you need more detailed information, I can provide as much as I can find.
You have a "Freewheeling" edition, that's where the stripes and orange bordered instrument cluster came from.
Also, the grill and grill shell are from a '78-'79 truck, not a '77.
Also, if you want to find out how exactly your truck was equipped when it left the factory, you can order a "Marti Report". This will give you a lot of info on your truck, how it was equipped, date ordered, date built, original selling dealer, etc. http://www.martiauto.com/
BTW, welcome to FTE. Lots of good knowledgeable people here.
@redroad
Truck has A/C control, but does not work at the moment. It used to work flawlessly till the pump went bad. My dad never fixed it. The fan speed switch also no longer works and he added an aftermarket one under the dash...
Engine bay photos - with those fancy chrome covers and air cleaner HA!
Almost forgot to mention the heater core is leaking, hence the hose being bypassed enough to get the truck 100 miles home. Have the new heater core behind the seat. Got to figure out how to install that too
@mikeo0o0o0
Thanks for the information I will be ordering the report shortly!

I thought the mirrors were out of place. Makes perfect sense it would have GM mirrors as that is what my family has always had and my dad likes to piece things together and has ample GM parts laying around... lol
Would these be the correct mirrors for this truck? I don't think it would have the bigger mirrors as I don't see any holes down on the lower side of the door.
So far I have found the turn signals do not work from the column. PO (father) instead of fixing the issue, ran new wire to the corners of the vehicle, installed those little lights in the photos and put them on a double toggle switch...
Heater fan control doesn't work, aftermarket installed under the dash. Passenger window crank broke along with door panel...
Looks like I have a good starting position to redo this truck.
Nice truck and welcome to FTE. I agree with HIO and mikeo0o0o. I would also add that if you do plan to redo the truck and keep it looking the way it did when new, that you take it to a sign shop. That way they can make a template if those stripes. Because you can't get NOS ones and even if you find a set they won't be any good as the adhesive will be well past its shelf life and won't adhere to the paint. And no one is replicating them. Just make sure that if you decide to do this with the stripes, that the sign company uses the 3M chromatic reflective vinyl tape. That way they'll be just like the factory stripes.
Btw, there is a rule among Freewheelin' Edition owners that you must have a tape, CD, or Ipod with the BeeGees' "Saturday Night Fever" and Donna Summers' "Bad Girls" albums.
