Tool box mounting suggestions

I have this tool box seen in the pictures and I was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions on how I should mount it. My Dad said to put it up front by the cab, but I feel like it kind of gets in the way then if I were to put something long on my bed.

Laterally or longitudinally, is there enough clearance btwn the bed rails to recess it into the bed so that only the stepped out portion projects above its surface? That would be trick.

Put it on the roof

I'd just by a underbed tool box of whatever size you need. Or you could do what HIO said. In box bed trucks the toolbox will sometimes sit on the bed rails allowing space underneath the box so you don't lose to much space in the bed length wise. Maybe you could make a bracket to hold the box just under the back window.

Easiest way is to mount it just where you had it. Couple of screws into the floor and a piece of angle going the width of the truck to protect it from any flat loads you might have. My personal preference would be to build an elevated perch for it to sit on, so that plywood, etc can still be set under it.

I like HIO's idea, but I would work to make it flush...not the best editing job, but you get the idea. If you have a rear gas tank, or the tool box is too tall, I myself would modify the toolbox to get it down flush. Your wood bed floor appears to be much taller than the factory bed floor, so it may be close...

Isn't the ladder rack for hauling long things?

Couple of options I see would be:
1. Put a cross section on the uprights to mount off the bed behind cab.
2. Put a cross section on the uprights to mount it on driver or passenger side.
3. Mount it on it's back under the bed on the driver side behind cab.
4. Sell this box on CL, it is a side box and are not readily available used, so sell pretty high, and buy a different one that would work better for you.

Ok thanks, I'll take a look at it and see what I can do. There is enough clearance to mount it flesh with the bed.

True.
