I have a 1966 F100 Frankenstein witha later motor - all by others. I constantly am reading and trying tolearn since my skills and abilities were never mechanical. I'mamazed by the abilities of the forum to solve problems drawing frompast experience.
So I have a question asking for help in identifyingmy current F100 motor. What I have so far with help in the 61/66forum is that the engine is perhaps from the 1980 -84 era, and I 'mpretty sure its a 302 (not 351) from the water pump casting.
WhenI changed the starter, I wrote the cast # EOAE D3C00 4B20 (I knownow- the D3C00 is probably 6300- but that’s what I wrote down andthe starter blocks me from checking) . I think this means 1984
ThePO did quite a bit of poor work on the body using mismatched parts (like the 1971 rear axel, 1965 grill)and I'm now the point to help the engine that perhaps is asmismatched. The engine is strong and runs great, but I'm not surewhat I am working with and where to start.
Myquestion is from the attached pictures or something else I can get, can youtell me more about the engine?
from the sensor (Control wire cut off) in the header, can you give me a year range these were manufactured like that or when the pollution system was first added to the 302?
How can you tell? Besides the outlet being slightly different were the y-pipe bolts up, they are pretty much the same I thought?
It looks like it has 6 bolts holding the valve cover on, so it would be a 289/302/351w. I can't see the waterpump head area very well though, but here is one of the ways to tell if it's a 351w or 302.
An easy way I used to ID Windsor small blocks was by looking at the thermostat housing. If the lower bolt on the t-stat housing sits below and behind the upper edge of the water pump and timing cover its a 260/289/302. If it sits above the timing cover, its a 351W because the 351 has a taller block. 351s also have a wider intake. Judging by those pics I'd say its a 302.
Just because the casting revision was for the full size cars, it does not mean your engine was installed in a full size as OEM.
Without an OEM tag which you would find on the intake near the coil, or even a carb tag, it is going to be hard to figure what it came out of. Since the engine has an Edelbrock manifold and probably a non-oem carb, I think you are out of luck for that kind of ID info.
If it runs good, all the better. If you need a water pump, take the old one with you to match it up. Ditto the belt, ps pump etc. For the most part, most of the rest of the stuff is almost generic for the 302.
I would get rid of those flex radiator hoses. If you can find a molded hose it would be better. Those flex hoses put a lot of strain on the radiator connection and I have had the seam on the tank near the hose nipple crack and start leaking because of those hoses.
