I have removed and disassembled the BW1356 transfer case from my 1990 F350, and the inside of the aluminum front half is covered in little spider web cracks, most especially on any outside radius. Is this normal for aluminum, or do i need another case half? The below picture is just a sample, the whole thing looks like this.
That's good to hear. I was puzzled why the back half looked in better condition despite being made of soft magnesium. The outsides are opposite, though. Outer magnesium looks like bird **** and the outside of the aluminum looks brand new. The groove that holds the oil pump looks perfect, too. Makes me wonder if anybody has ever had a pump failure with an aluminum BW1356.
