Hello everyone. I have always wanted an excursion and was able to purchase one (picking up tonight). It is a 2000 Model with 127,000 miles and is the V10 and 4WD. Needs some work but that is why I am here.
Needs:
Brakes- Feel weak and vibrates under braking. Anything to stay away from? Possibly some suspension work?- Pop underneath left side by drivers foot area- Sway bar bushing? He recently installed some Monroe shocks Windshield RS Exhaust manifold leak fixed Some minor peeling paint in door jambs Minor rust repair/cover up- probably just going to flake some rust and undercoat the underside.
Brakes vibrating usually means warped rotors...
The popping is either, sway bar bushings or body mount...
RS exhaust leak is most likely broken exhaust manifold studs

Nailed it!
Replacing the studs is a bit of a task, but the info here on the forum will get you through it!
Thanks guys, I found a writeup on the studs.. not sure I want to tackle that, sounds like a night of cursing and beer. Is there a clean "how to" on the body bushing. I found a lot of questions regarding it but didn't find a step by step writeup.. apologies in advance if I missed it.
Has anyone used Oreilys "cheaper" rotors or should i spent additional money on a more expensive one from there or another supplier entirely?
Congrats and welcome. I am still a new guy myself and have already done a ton of work on my new Ex.

I replaced all four calipers, rotors and pads on mine. I went with the Wearever parts from Advance. The calipers were simply remanufactured OEM Ford calipers and were done well and looked brand new. The rotors were very nice. I also chose the Super Duty pads instead of regular the other regular pads. Total spent was $417.07 after discounts.
Additionally, the calipers and pads have a limited lifetime replacement which my Advance had always been great with me on with regards to parts from my other cars. The rotors are covered for two years.

You'll see in my first thread on FTE that I had the popping/clunking sound as well. I replaced shocks, ball joints, hub assemblies all of which were bad, but it was still making the noise. After doing all that work and based on the recommendation from other members I replaced the sway bar end links and sway bar bushings and it worked. Perfectly smooth and quiet Ex now.
I can't confirm which of the two (sway bar end links or sway bar bushings) was causing the noise, but I am inclined to believe it was the end links as they were shot and the bushings still looked pretty good. Everyone here pointed me to the end links as well.
That was a pretty inexpensive repair. $33.97 after discounts for 2 end links that came with grease fittings and for 2 Moog sway bar bushings.
Good luck with your new project and don't hesitate to ask questions. These guys are great.
That's something I'd never heard before; I thought pads are considered a wear item. Good to know, and thanks!
Many of these auto supply outlets have lifetime warranty, knowing that you wont have a receipt or registered it under an account. I have an account just under my name and phone number for everything I buy. Had a pair of sway bar end links on my mazda go bad 3 years after installing them. Brought them in and go a new pair for zero costs.

I agree with them being wear items. Advance has always been great to me. The guys/gals at the store nearest my house do just about anything to help and never treat you like you're trying to pull a fast one when you return things. While we all agree it's a wear item, they're warranty clearly states that they will replace them. They'll even reimburse for installation costs if you had them professionally installed.
Unfortunately the rotors only have a two year warranty, but I'm covered for with the limited lifetime on the caliper rebuilds and pads.
